Who Silversea suits
Travelers who want a calm, adult, internationally mixed ship and who value service in the suite over programming in the theater. On shorter, port-heavy sailings the evenings are quiet. On longer voyages with more sea days the entertainment is noticeably stronger, which is worth knowing before you pick a week.
It also suits anyone who wants one brand for both classic ocean cruises and expedition cruises.
If you hold status with Royal Caribbean or Celebrity, Silversea matches it through the Venetian Society. Your tier carries over, you keep earning points, and you can combine them across all three brands.
The two ocean fares
One important clarification. No shore excursions are included on Silversea ocean cruises under either fare. The Plus fare provides a credit toward tours, not the tours themselves. On expedition voyages the Plus fare is a different proposition, since it does include shore excursions, Zodiac tours, expert lectures, and flights.

- All-Inclusive Plus Fare: a refundable deposit, Fare Guarantee Program protection, and a shore excursion credit that varies by sailing length
The four suite categories
Silversea began accepting bookings under this four-category structure on September 16, 2026. Butler service, 24-hour in-suite dining, Wi-Fi, beverages, gratuities, port fees, taxes, and the applicable onboard dining choices continue across every category.
The Oceanview category does not include a balcony. For a scenic itinerary such as Norway or Alaska, moving into the Veranda category is usually money well spent.
- Oceanview: Panorama and Vista suites, both with large picture windows rather than private balconies
- Veranda: Premium Veranda, Deluxe Veranda, Superior Veranda, Classic Veranda, and Veranda suites, each with a private balcony
- Residence: Junior Grand, Signature, Silver, Premium Medallion, and Medallion suites, with separate bedroom and living areas
- Villa: Otium, Master, Owner's, Grand, and Royal suites, offering the largest interiors and terraces
Residence and Villa benefits from 2027
For sailings departing on or after January 1, 2027, Residence guests receive priority embarkation on Classic voyages. Their reservation windows also open earlier, at 210 days for spa appointments and 150 days for dining.
Villa guests receive those Residence benefits plus a broader level of pre-trip and onboard attention. On Classic voyages, this can include a private arrival transfer when airfare is booked through Silversea, early suite access, and a welcome escort. Villa guests also gain private planning time with culinary, wine, and spa leaders, selected in-suite dining and entertaining experiences, in-suite exercise equipment, and priority help from a Destination Expert before departure.
At selected Classic-voyage debarkation ports, Villa guests may remain onboard longer on the final day, with access to dining, beverages, public spaces, luggage storage, and Wi-Fi until the ship prepares for its next sailing. Availability depends on the port and voyage.
The fleet by class
Every ship is all-suite and every suite faces the ocean. Even the largest Nova Class ships carry far fewer guests than a premium mainstream ship, so the choice between classes comes down to itinerary, venues, and how intimate you want the ship to feel.
- Nova Class: Silver Nova (2023) and Silver Ray (2024), the largest ships at 364 suites each
- Muse Class: Silver Muse, Silver Moon (2020), and Silver Dawn, with Silver Moon and Silver Dawn at 298 suites each
- Silver Spirit: a 2009 ship in its own class, later lengthened and refitted, carrying about 636 guests
- Shadow Class: Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper, 196 suites each, for a smaller-ship feel on classic itineraries
- Expedition: Silver Endeavour (110 suites), Silver Wind (137), Silver Cloud (127), and Silver Origin (50, built for the Galápagos)
Where Silversea sails
Classic voyages cover the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Asia, Alaska, Canada and New England, and the Caribbean and Central America. Expedition ships focus on Antarctica, the Arctic, the Galápagos, and the Kimberley. Regions such as South America, Africa and the Indian Ocean, Australia and New Zealand, and the South Pacific are served by both, which lets you pair a classic cruise and an expedition with the same brand.
Silversea's S.A.L.T. program (Sea And Land Taste) ties dining to the region you are sailing through on participating ships. S.A.L.T. Kitchen serves a complimentary menu that changes with the destination, S.A.L.T. Bar mixes complimentary cocktails from regional ingredients and spirits, S.A.L.T. Lab runs complimentary small-group cooking classes, S.A.L.T. Chef's Table is an 11-course small-plate tasting at about $180 per person, S.A.L.T. Experiences are culinary shore excursions to farms, markets, and private kitchens, and S.A.L.T. Talks are onboard lectures and demonstrations on regional food and culture. Not every ship offers every element, so ask me what your ship has before you sail.
Dining
Most dining is part of the fare, including Atlantide, Indochine, Silver Note, and La Terrazza where the ship has them. Only La Dame and Kaiseki carry a per-cover charge, and it depends on the ship: about $100 for La Dame and $80 for Kaiseki dinner on Silver Nova and Silver Ray, and lower on other ships (around $60 for La Dame and $40 for Kaiseki). Prices do change.
On sea days, Atlantide serves a full multi-course lunch with waiter service. On port days it opens for breakfast and dinner only, so lunch choices are La Terrazza and the pool grill (The Grill or Spaccanapoli, depending on the ship). If you stay onboard on a port day and want a traditional sit-down lunch, your butler can serve it course by course in your suite or on your veranda. Complimentary caviar remains available around the clock, in the suite and across the restaurants.
Expedition sailings
The expedition fleet reaches Antarctica, the Arctic, the Galápagos, and remote corners of Asia and the Pacific, with a team of naturalists onboard and Zodiac operations run to a high standard. Expedition voyages are where the Plus fare earns its premium, because flights and shore activity are included.
Silversea staffs its expedition ships generously, with Silversea publishing about one guide for every ten guests on Silver Endeavour and Silver Origin. In practice that means smaller groups ashore, more time off the ship, and a wider choice of activities on each landing rather than one program for everyone.
Antarctica voyages from Puerto Williams, Chile can include a stay at The Cormorant at 55 South, Silversea's new 150-room hotel scheduled to open in October 2026, which Silversea describes as the southernmost hotel in the world. It gives you a comfortable base at the end of the continent before or after crossing to the Peninsula. Ask me which departures include it.
On expedition sailings departing on or after January 1, 2027, Villa guests receive three expedition-specific privileges: the option to join their preferred Zodiac departure group, priority access to a kayaking session, and a behind-the-scenes look at expedition operations with the onboard team.
City stays and land programs
Silversea can extend many voyages on land, with the hotel, transfers, touring, and logistics arranged by the line. City Stays in gateway cities are two-night stays with accommodation, transfers, and guided touring, a simple way to arrive rested before embarkation or unwind after. Land Programs run up to six nights.
Longer land programs are popular for adding a destination the ship cannot reach, such as a lodge stay in Denali before or after Alaska, Machu Picchu alongside a South America voyage, or time in the Galápagos. Inclusions vary by program, so I confirm exactly what is covered before you book.
What to wear onboard
Silversea has relaxed its dress code. Jackets are now optional throughout, high-end denim is welcome, and dress sneakers are fine indoors, including the restaurants. Ripped or distressed denim and athletic shoes are not allowed indoors in the evening. Pack the way you would for a nice restaurant at home rather than for a formal night.
Status match with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity
The match works tier for tier across all three brands, so loyal Royal Caribbean or Celebrity cruisers do not start over on Silversea. I can walk you through requesting the match before your first sailing.
