Expedition, nature focused

Choose Lindblad Expeditions when wildlife and immersion come first. It’s an expert-led approach designed to bring every aspect of the destination into focus.
Curious travelers who would rather be in a Zodiac at seven in the morning than at a late breakfast. Dinner conversation is about what everyone saw that day. There is no casino, no production show, and no reason to pack formal clothes.
It is not the right choice for travelers whose priority is a large suite, a butler, or a long list of restaurants.
The Galapagos program runs year round on purpose-built ships, with itineraries covering the western and eastern islands. Antarctica and the Arctic use ice-class vessels. Alaska sailings work the small inlets and coves that larger ships pass by, and the coastal Pacific Northwest and Baja programs are a unique destination that most guests overlook.
Onboard photography instruction is a core feature of the voyage, not an afterthought. Instructors host hands-on workshops covering camera settings, composition, and post-processing—then head out with you in the Zodiacs to offer real-time advice in the field. If you have a camera you have never fully mastered, this is where it all comes together.

I also handle the flights, the pre-cruise nights that protect against delays, and the gear questions that come up before a first expedition.
Ultra-luxury, ocean and expedition
Silversea is ultra-luxury with a European accent and butler service in every suite. Its 17 suite types are now grouped into Oceanview, Veranda, Residence, and Villa categories, with added Residence and Villa benefits beginning on sailings departing January 1, 2027. Shore excursions are not included on ocean cruises under either fare, while expedition voyages include excursions, Zodiac tours, lectures, and flights under the Plus fare.
Silversea is quieter and more European in feel than its peers, with butler service in every suite category and an expedition fleet that stands alongside the specialists. I have sailed Silver Dawn through the Norwegian fjords and Silver Spirit from Iberia to Southampton, and the two voyages felt like different products in the best way.

Travelers who want a calm, adult, internationally mixed ship and who value service in the suite over programming in the theater. On shorter, port-heavy sailings the evenings are quiet. On longer voyages with more sea days the entertainment is noticeably stronger, which is worth knowing before you pick a week.
It also suits anyone who wants one brand for both a classic Mediterranean cruise and an Antarctica or Galápagos expedition.
And if you hold status with Royal Caribbean or Celebrity, Silversea matches it through the Venetian Society. Your tier carries over, you keep earning points, and you can combine them across all three brands.
One important clarification. No shore excursions are included on Silversea ocean cruises under either fare. The Plus fare provides a credit toward tours, not the tours themselves. On expedition voyages the Plus fare is a different proposition, since it does include shore excursions, Zodiac tours, expert lectures, and flights.
Silversea began accepting bookings under this four-category structure on September 16, 2026. Butler service, 24-hour in-suite dining, Wi-Fi, beverages, gratuities, port fees, taxes, and the applicable onboard dining choices continue across every category.
The Oceanview category does not include a balcony. For a scenic itinerary such as Norway or Alaska, moving into the Veranda category is usually money well spent.
For sailings departing on or after January 1, 2027, Residence guests receive priority embarkation on Classic voyages. Their reservation windows also open earlier, at 210 days for spa appointments and 150 days for dining.
Villa guests receive those Residence benefits plus a broader level of pre-trip and onboard attention. On Classic voyages, this can include a private arrival transfer when airfare is booked through Silversea, early suite access, and a welcome escort. Villa guests also gain private planning time with culinary, wine, and spa leaders, selected in-suite dining and entertaining experiences, in-suite exercise equipment, and priority help from a Destination Expert before departure.
At selected Classic-voyage debarkation ports, Villa guests may remain onboard longer on the final day, with access to dining, beverages, public spaces, luggage storage, and Wi-Fi until the ship prepares for its next sailing. Availability depends on the port and voyage.
Most dining is part of the fare, including Atlantide, Indochine, Silver Note, and La Terrazza. Only La Dame and Kaiseki carry a per-cover charge, roughly one hundred dollars per person for La Dame and around eighty for Kaiseki, and those prices do change.
As of 2026, Atlantide and Kaiseki no longer open for lunch on port days, only the buffet and pool grill (The Grill) are open. Complimentary caviar remains available around the clock, in the suite and across the restaurants.
The expedition fleet reaches Antarctica, the Arctic, the Galápagos, and remote corners of Asia and the Pacific, with a team of naturalists onboard and Zodiac operations run to a high standard. Expedition voyages are where the Plus fare earns its premium, because flights and shore activity are included.
On expedition sailings departing on or after January 1, 2027, Villa guests receive three expedition-specific privileges: the option to join their preferred Zodiac departure group, priority access to a kayaking session, and a behind-the-scenes look at expedition operations with the onboard team. These are Villa benefits, not inclusions for every suite category.
